Mikyoung Kim
RISD Department Head and Professor [Landscape Architecture]
Mikyoung Kim, principal of mikyoung kim design in Brookline, MA, is an
award-winning land architect and environmental artist whose use of
sculpture and music brings a sensitivity and inclusiveness to her
designs. According to critic John Beardsley, her “appearance...in the
front ranks of contemporary landscape designers tells us a great deal
about the shifting focus within the profession.... She is
representative of a new generation of artists, philosophers and
designers who are interested in the inhabitation and transgression of
numerous professional and cultural boundaries.” Kim’s projects have
varied from civic gardens and municipal playgrounds to large-scale
parks and institutional master plans, and her work has been featured in
Architectural Record, Sculpture, Landscape Architecture, Land Forum, and Pages Paysages, as well as in a recent monograph focusing on her designs of the past 10 years.
