Rag and Bone Bindery was born several years ago when Ilira Steinman gave her (then boyfriend, now husband) Jason Thompson a book she had made for his birthday. Sharing an interest in the lost art of bookbinding, the pair learned all the intricacies of making fine books by hand and in 1991 began to market their creations to specialty stores. Today Rag and Bone albums and journals are sold at more than 1,200 stationery stores, artisan galleries and museum shops in the US and Canada. All the materials are specially selected, including handmade and hand-printed papers from local artisans, and made into books in the company's studio in Pawtucket, RI. Rag and Bone creations have been featured in publications including Elle Decor, American Baby, Family Circle and InStyle.
