Jonathan Hopp RISD ’01 [Industrial Design] + Sarah Auslander RISD ’01 [Industrial Design]
Working together under the name Stella since 2002, Israeli designers Jonathan Hopp and Sarah Auslander use mass-production methods to make unusual ceramic wares. “Inspired by the banal” — telephone poles, TV antennas, utilitarian buildings — and, “with the purpose of empowering the mundane,” their products repeat and celebrate images and icons of everyday life, challenging viewers to see them in a new light. Stella’s Tel Aviv miniatures and other curiously appealing products have been featured in culture and design magazines around the world, including Time Out, Travel and Leisure, Wallpaper and German Elle Decoration, and in design exhibitions in Jerusalem, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Berlin, Milan, Buenos Aires, London and New York.
