Yuki Murata
RISD MFA ’02 [Industrial Design]
Though she’s just a few years out of RISD, Yuki Murata has established herself as an accomplished designer and artist in several media. Beginning her career in architectural design, she earned her undergraduate degree at Yale and then worked for firms in California and New Mexico; when she decided to switch to product design, RISD was her choice for an industrial design program. A stint at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia in New York ensued, but she soon decided to return to New Mexico to start her own company, Moderngoods (www.moderngoods.com). Today Murata produces high-fire earthenware dishes and vessels, and through the Babyloco division of the company (www.babyloco.com) she creates onesies and t-shirts that celebrate babies’ “brains as much as beauty.”
