Denyse Schmidt’s role in today’s quilt revival combines a keen sense of design with a lifelong love of textiles, which led to a line of placemats, dinner napkins, stationery and bedding. Characterized by simple graphics, vibrant color and high quality workmanship, her contemporary quilts are favorites at upscale galleries and boutiques across the country. Schmidt hopes her offbeat designs will be welcomed into the home “like some eccentric relative who is odd and fun to be around.” True to tradition, she enlists the help of Amish craftswomen as well as members of the Southwest Creations Collaborative to handcraft her timeless heirlooms, cotton prints and “bettie” line of bedding.
