Eric Janssen
RISD ’93 [Graphic Design MFA]
Eric Janssen brings a keen interest in materials, an emphasis on function, and a subtle sense of humor to his furniture and products. Since launching his design firm (www.ericjanssendesign.com) in 1997, his work has been featured in Surface, The New York Times and ID. Janssen’s particular fascination with the essential elements of the object — material, function and form — derives in part from his background as a graphic designer. He attributes his no-nonsense approach to form to a reliance on simple geometry and an admiration for the design aesthetic of early 20th-century modernism. In order to maintain control over the design integrity and quality of each object, Janssen produces and distributes all of his own products from his New York studio.
