In exploring the perception of gravity, space and geometry, Melissa Borrell’s wide-ranging design work blurs the distinction between architecture, sculpture, graphic and fashion design. In 1999 she opened her own studio in San Francisco to focus on her signature jewelry line, along with wallcovering, lighting and home accessories. Self-taught as a jewelry designer, she refined her skills through RISD’s master’s program and has since been producing eye-catching work through Melissa Borrell Design. In addition to being available here at risd|works, her jewelry is sold at the Museum of Modern Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Lightology in Chicago and Jewelerswerk in Washington, DC, among other galleries and museum shops.
