Textile artist Sally Jones has been running her own design and production facility in Oneonta, NY since the early 1980s. Inspired by the surprising combination of color, scale and pattern in Japanese textiles, she creates her hand-painted and printed textiles using a process similar to the stencil and paste-resist dyeing techniques typical in Japan. “After the technical and aesthetic decisions have been made, the resulting cloth takes on a life of its own as it is wrapped, tied and worn as clothing,” she says. Jones has won many awards and grants for her work, which has been featured in publications such as Ornament, Surface Design and Smithsonian, and is shown in galleries and fine craft shows throughout the US.
