Donya Kaufer’s line of Metal Monk jewelry was born at the artist’s own wedding, when the engraved cuff links she had made for the bridal party generated an unexpected rush of orders. Crafted entirely by hand, her sterling silver, 18-k gold and vermeil pieces are created using the traditional lost-wax technique. Intricate details include signature toggle closures, and semi-precious beads — jade, turquoise and coral, among others — are added for texture and color. Kaufer draws inspiration from Celtic patterns and medieval art, and attributes the bold colors of her collection to her passion for Asian culture. Born and raised in Rhode Island, she currently works out of her studio in Northport, NY. Metal Monk jewelry is available at boutiques and museum shops around the world and has been featured in In Style, Bride’s and Mademoiselle magazines.
